Welcome!

This is such an exciting year for Ozark Elementary Schools! It is a great honor for me to be part of this new and exciting Science program. This program is going to allow the students to come to the Science Lab twice a month. During this time the students will work on inquiry based activities. Not only will the students work hands on in discovery lessons but also use a science notebook to write about their observations. As the year goes I will post updates and class information on this blog. Feel free to become a "follower" of this blog. That will allow you to be notified of any updates I make to this site. I will try to post information about the activities we do in class as well as links to kid friendly science information I find on the web. Please feel free to contact me with any questions about our class.

Looking forward to a great year!

Next Week:

Reading – Our mini lessons will focus on the skill of main idea. We will also continue with guided reading groups and stations.

Writing – We are going to work on developing characters in our writing. Each student will write a character sketch.

Math – Our class will continue a unit on division. We have learned the traditional method of dividing and will also learn a method called Partial Sums Algorithm. Here is a video link of the method: http://www.csd.k12.nh.us/~lstua/Parents/VIP%20Partial%20Quotients.doc

Social Studies: For the next several weeks we will be learning about early Missouri History, Lewis and Clark, and westward expansion.

This and That
• The snow make up days are January 18th and February 15th. Originally these were holidays on the calendar. Due to last week’s missed days we WILL attend school on those two days.
• February 12th is a half day

Student of the Week: Bailey G. was our student of the week. Today she shared her dislikes and likes with our class. It was fun to hear about her puppy and her love of HGTV and Food Network! (a girl after my own heart!)

Next Week:

Reading – The students finished a chapter book during guided reading this week. Next week they will use that book to create a poster to promote the book. They will have to be able to identify character traits, describe the setting and write a summary of the book.

Writing – They are going to write a letter to tell the Gingerbread Man what he could have done to avoid being caught. We are also going to compare and contrast Christmas then and now.

Math – We are going to practice using our ACE method to answering word problems.

Social Studies – We will research four countries traditions at the holidays.

This and That
• Christmas Party – December 23rd 9 – 10 am. We will be having breakfast here that morning!
• 12/23 – Dismissal at 11:50
• 12/24 – 01/04 Break/students return on January 5

MATH GROUP – Starting on January 7th I will host a math group in my room from 8:00 – 8:30. If you feel your child would benefit from some extra math help have them come down to my room. We will complete a timed test each day before we play some math games. Students that pass the test will earn a reward. This will be a low key fun way to work on math. I’ll send a reminder when we return after Christmas break.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! Thank you all for you have done for me this year. These kids are one of a kind! They are sweet, funny, and make my job fun!
