Mrs. Thurman’s Newsletter
November 6, 2009
Next Week:
Reading – We will be working on non-fiction text features. Using mentor text and textbooks we will investigate the parts of a non-fiction book and how they can help us as readers.
Writing – Students will research animals that live along the Missouri River. They will then write a story about a person who takes a trip down the river and encounters these animals. We are going to use Daisy Comes Home by Jan Brett as a model for our writing.
Math – Next week we will work on adding and subtracting large numbers. This is readiness for the multiplication unit that we are beginning soon.
Science – We will continue with electricity.
This and That
• Friday, November 13th is early release. School will dismiss at 11:45. No lunch is served.
• Tuesday, November 17th is the fourth grade music program. They have been working really hard and sound great! Mrs. Burwick sent a note home in their folders today.
• Thanksgiving break will be Wednesday, November 25th – Friday, November 27th.
• We will not have grammar homework for the rest of this semester.
• Math homework will continue to be highlighted in their assignment book. Today several students had poor grades on homework. Please write me a note if there is something you do not understand on the homework or if your child is really struggling with the concept. The concept on the homework is not new, but they might need assistance.
Cade Little was our student of the week! It was fun to see his pictures and poster. The kids and I loved hearing about snow skiing! He made it look so fun!
